Rebooking - The First Step
I make it a point every quarter to walk the floor of our business, imagining I am a sugar wax client. At every step I think about the experience, the service, the deportment. Years ago, one of the things we notices was clients will rebook 20-25 points higher if they rebooked directly with their service provider. At first we through this should occur in the rooms. But we wanted the functionality of staff showing clients applicable products. We have an amazing line, Skin From Scratch. It was important to have it featured prominently within our franchise “Spa Science”

Our Content is Real
I'm not going to lie, it was scary starting a business. If we would have started a hamburger stand, it would have been stressful enough. But we could have learned from other businesses, in other markets. There would have been vendors with solutions in place to support all of the issues hamburger stands invariably go through. But there was no knowledge of the sugar waxing market because there was no market. But we saw this as an advantage in that we could create our own image for our own CULTURE from scratch.

Who We Are is How We Are
Aimee always says that Sugaring is the largest portion of the experience. And that it accounts for 40% of the total experience. But it's still less than half of the entire visit. How we answer the phone, book the appointment, point of sale software cleanliness of common areas an bathrooms are all part of this experience and can change a positive review to negative and change a paying client to a passive interest.

What's It's Like Being a Guy in the Beauty Biz
I was recently asked what it's like being a guy in the beauty sector. It seems like quite a departure for a “guy's guy” to work and own within the sugar waxing business. For me it was all about listening and learning. It was an opportunity to change our family's lives so it was a fairly easy decision. Most people don't do the thing they envision themselves doing when they were seven. There's only so many baseball players and firemen in this world (haha).

Dealing with Turnover on the Fly: Lesson #1
Change happens in business. It happens in the service sector and it happens in waxing and sugar waxing sectors. Aestheticians love performing our services for clients. They love to provide better/cleaner services for their clients. That's why they went to aesthetic school. They also enjoy reducing monotony by bouncing from sugaring to skin care to spray tan. So we see staff stay almost three times longer than waxing providers on average. Nevertheless staff doesn't last forever.

Any booking software will work as point of sale software. Be careful when starting your clean beauty business. There are many pit falls. Many services are “free” on the booking end. Companies intigrate so they use ONLY a specific bank for credit card processing. This will cost a business thousands of dollars monthly. Yes, monthly. Competition and price matching can be everything in credit card processing.

Six Types of Sweet
Ten years ago there wasn't much of a market for any of this. Sugar waxing, sugaring hair removal or waxing by means of sugar were all just thoughts, ideas and salon suites. That meant inventing, molding and defining your own business and creating the solutions for your own issues. While at the time it was incredibly daunting, looking back it feels very rewarding.
